การแข่งขันไตรกีฬาครั้งแรกในเอเชี่ยนเกมส์ที่โดฮา ประเทศกาตาร์ซึ่งจะทำการแข่งขันในวันที่ 8 ธันวาคม 2549 ที่ใกล้จะถึงในอีกไม่กี่เดือนนี้นั้น บัดนี้ได้รับแจ้งจากเลขาธิการสหพันธ์ไตรกีฬาแห่งเอเชียว่า สรุปยอดนักไตรกีฬาจากประเทศต่างๆทั้งชาย 29 และ หญิง 21 รวมทั้งสิ้น 50 คน มีรายชื่อแต่ละประเทศดังนี้

สำหรับประเทศไทย เราตัดสินใจไม่ส่งนักกีฬาไปร่วมการแข่งขัน เพราะมาตรฐานความสามารถยังต่ำอยู่ ทางคณะกรรมการโอลิมปิคแห่งประเทศไทยจึงไม่อนุญาตให้ไปแข่งขันในรายการนี้


เอาไว้เมื่อเรามีนักกีฬาที่มีความสามารถมากกว่าที่เป็นอยู่ เชื่อมั่นว่า สักวันหนึ่งเราจะได้ไปร่วมเอเชี่ยนเกมส์แน่นอน


อย่างไรก็ตามทางสหพันธ์ไตรกีฬาแห่งเอเชียได้แต่งตั้งให้ทนายวิจิตรไปร่วมเป็นเจ้าหน้าที่ในการจัดการแข่งขันไตรกีฬาครั้งนี้ด้วย


คงจะได้ภาพสวยๆมาฝากพรรคพวกเช่นเคย โปรดติดตาม

ตอนนี้ได้รับแจ้งจาก David Hoong รองนายกสมาคมไตรกีฬาแห่งสิงคโปร์แจ้งหนังสือเวียนมาว่า ทางคณะกรรมการโอลิมปิคแห่งสิงคโปร์อาจพิจารณาตัดสิทธิ์นักไตรกีฬาแห่งสิงคโปร์ 3 คน(ชาย 2 หญิง 1) ไม่ให้ไปแข่งเอเชี่ยนเกมส์


สาเหตุเพราะ ในการแข่งขันไตรกีฬาชิงแชมป์แห่งเอเชียที่ Jiayuguan ประเทศสาธารณะรัฐประชาชนจีนเมื่อวันที่ 10 - 14 สิงหาคมที่ผ่านมานั้น นักไตรกีฬาทั้งสามคนแสดงผลงานไม่ดี ทางสมาคมแห่งนั้นก็กำลังอุทธรณ์ตามขั้นตอนกันอยู่


อาจอดไปแข่ง


ทั้งๆที่ หนึ่ง ในจำนวนั้นเคยคว้าเหรียญทองซีเกมส์ที่ฟิลิปินส์มาแล้วนะนี่


ทางการของสิงคโปร์เขาให้เงินสนับสนุนแก่สมาคมปีละ 500,000 เหรียญสิงคโปร์ (คิดเป็นเงินไทยปีละ 12 ล้านบาท)


เขาทุ่มกันเต็มที่ หวังเต็มที่ ผลออกมายังงี้ ก็เลยโดน

When 48 of the fittest sportsmen and sportswomen at Doha 2006 dive into the blue waters just off the city’s picturesque Corniche on Friday 8 December, it will also mark the first time that triathlon has taken the plunge into the Asian Games.


Triathlon as a sport is still remarkably young. The first ever recorded race took place in San Diego, USA only 32 years ago, yet its ascent to global acceptance as one of sport’s greatest tests of athleticism has been incredible.


Triathlon made its Olympic Games debut at Sydney 2000 and is also a regular feature within Pan-American and Commonwealth Games, so its inclusion in the 15th Asian Games fully establishes its place within the world’s biggest multi-sport events.


The sport combines swimming, cycling and running and can be over a variety of distances. But the most widely accepted is the Olympic distance, consisting of a 1500m swim, 40km cycle and finally a 10km run.


It is an attractive sport for competitors and spectators alike; Triathlon has the adrenalin-flowing, strength-sapping and fortitude-testing factors that appeal to the competitive nature of all athletes. For supporters too, racing is often close and unpredictable with each athlete having different strengths and weaknesses over the three disciplines.


The chaos of the transition area, where competitors switch from swimming to cycling equipment and then from cycling into running gear, also provides much excitement, as every triathlete seeks to save crucial seconds.


Of course, this being the first time ever that triathlon has ever taken part within an Asian Games, the medals will take on extra significance. Their winners will be history-makers. In the men’s race, experienced 35 year-old Dmitriy Gaag is one to watch.


Perhaps Asia’s most successful ever triathlete, the Kazak was the surprise men’s winner at the 1999 World Championships in Montreal, Canada. Such was the unexpected nature of this victory, that the event organisers did not have a recording of the Kazakhstan national anthem and instead played the theme music from the film Chariots of Fire to mark his victory.


Such is his competitive reputation now, that organisers will be wise to keep a recording close to hand at Doha 2006, particularly with compatriot Daniil Sapunov another likely contender. The 24 year-old was a creditable 17th at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens.


Gold medalist at this year’s Asian Championships Hirokatsu Tayama of Japan, should also be very much to the fore. Meanwhile, Hong Kong’s Daniel Lee Chi Wo is one who could cause an upset. He recently finished just one second behind Gaag at the Asian Cup.


In the women’s race, Ai Ueda of Japan won gold at this year’s Asian Championships. Her team-mate Akiko Sekine was a fine 12th at the Athens Olympics and is another medal hopeful. Last year’s Asian champion Wang Hongni (China) will lead her country’s challenge.


Fui Li Yap of Malaysia is also worth looking out for. Although she only took up the sport three years ago, she won gold at last year’s South East Asian Games in Manila, Philippines.


With a quality entry and the superb backdrop of the city skyline along the Corniche, triathlon will be making quite an entry in the Asian Games. It may be a first time visitor, but one suspects that triathlon is here to stay.

All over Asia athletes are waiting for the call – their golden ticket to the 15th Asian Games in Doha.


Countries and regions will finalise their squads in the coming days, with thousands of athletes on tenterhooks waiting to find out if they’ll be on the plane to the biggest sporting event ever to be staged in the Middle East.


The lucky ones will remember exactly where they were when they heard the good news. But surely none of the 10,000 athletes will have a stranger tale to tell than Malaysian triathlete Heidille Mohamad – who was feeding alligators when he got the call-up.


Heidille was tempting the reptiles with some tasty treats on a farm in Kota Kinabalu when his mobile phone started to ring. He was astonished at the sensational news, but not as surprised as the officials were when he told them he was looking straight into the eyes of a 2m-long alligator.


The 23 year-old rookie loves living life on the edge, listing his favourite activities as rock climbing and swimming in shark-infested waters.


“It was a dream come true as I did not expect to be selected”, he said with a grin. Speaking on Thursday 26 October, the Malaysian added: “However due to my lack of experience it will be hard to win a medal in Doha. My main target is to try to dip below two hours.”


Triathlon is making its debut in the Games, so predicting the winning time is extremely difficult. But as a gauge, the winning time at the Athens Olympics two years ago was 1:51.


In Doha, the champion is expected to come from either Japan, China or Korea. Heidille predicts it will be the water which sorts the men from the boys.


“My timing in swimming is not very good. I need to improve because triathletes who do well in this discipline normally win,” he said.


Heidille, who is currently jobless, earned his Doha spot after topping this year’s Malakoff Malaysian Duathlon Series.

They're off! Triathletes dive in at the start of the swimming legJapanese triathletes used the ITU Triathlon World Championships in Lausanne, Switzerland, which concluded 3 September, as an indicator for their potential performance in the 15th Asian Games Doha 2006.


The country’s top elite man and elite woman competitors both finished in the top 30 positions, but their fellow team members in the under-23 division out-performed the elite squad.


Hirokatsu Tayama finished 22nd in the elite men’s category, while Ai Ueda fared even better in the elite women’s event, finishing in overall 12th position. Both of them are generally considered to be strongest in the running events.


Tayama, who is 25 years-old and has been competing in the triathlon since 1999, took part in the Athens Olympics two years ago, finishing in 13th place. Ueda, a regular competitor on the World Cup circuit, is ranked 29th in the world.


In the under-23 women’s category, Keiko Tanaka continued to show her potential with a useful ninth placing. In the men’s under-23 race, Yuichi Hasegawa finished 47th.


Hideki Yamane, Japan’s head coach, on being asked recently about the prospects of his triathletes at the forthcoming 15th Asian Games, said they aim to win all the gold medals. “China will be our biggest rival in women's events, while Kazakhstan will be the strongest competitor in the men's event,” he said.

Japan aims to pocket all triathlon titles in the Asian Games this year, said Japan's head coach Hideki Yamane on Sunday, after his team dominated the 15th Asian Triathlon Championships.


During the weekend meet in Jiayuguan, China on 12-13 August, Japanese triathletes not only won both men’s and women’s elite categories, but also took all five top places in the junior women’s race and four of the top five places in the under-23 women’s category.


Winning the elite men’s race was Hirokatsu Tayama, who led from the start and had the fastest swim and run times on the day. In second place was Daniil Sapunov of Kazakhstan, while third was Yiming Zhang of China. As well as Sapunov’s second place, Kazakhstan took the top two places in the junior men’s event.


In the women’s race, Japan took the top three places. Ai Ueda, who has been competing on the World Cup circuit, came home first thanks to a strong run. In second place was Saori Ahmatsu, while third was Akiko Sekine.


China’s Lin Xing, sixth in the World Cup round held in Doha earlier this year, could manage only fourth place.


At U-23 level, Keiko Tanaka, who is world ranked 74th, won the women’s title, with Zhang Hanmei from China taking the silver. Andrew Wright from Hong Kong, China was first of the U-23 men ahead of Zhou Zhongwei and Fang Zhou from China.


Asked about Japanese team’s goals for the 15th Asian Games, coach Yamane said that they aim to win all the golds. “China will be our biggest rival in women's events, while Kazakhstan will be the strongest competitor in men's."


China, who had won the elite women’s title in Singapore a year earlier, but was out of luck this time, has serious medal ambitions for Doha 2006. "China's goal is to win the women's gold and a men's medal," said Wang Xuanqing, vice-president of China Triathlon Association.

In 1920, the French newspaper L'Auto reported on a competition called Les Trois Sports with a 3km run, 12km bike ride and a crossing of the river Marne.


Reports on similar races in France followed but the sport soon slowed down and virtually disappeared. It re-emerged in 1974 when a group of friends began training together in southern California. Among them were runners, swimmers and cyclists and their training sessions soon turned into informal races. The club's first event consisted of a 500m swim, an 8km cycle and a 10km run.


Over the next decade, triathlon grew in popularity and gained recognition throughout the world. In 1989, the International Triathlon Union (ITU) was founded in Avignon, France, and the first official world championships were held.


The official distance for triathlon was set at a 1,500m swim, a 40km cycle and a 10km run. These distances are the longest for each of the three disciplines featured on the Olympic programme. This standard distance is used for the ITU World Cup series and the Olympic Games.


Triathlon made its Olympic debut at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games in Australia. The sport will make its first Asian Games appearance at the 15th Asian Games Doha 2006.

The palm tree-lined Doha Corniche is one of the most famous waterfronts in the Middle East. Starting from the Sheraton Hotel to the north, it sweeps about 7.5km in a smooth curve, finishing at the newly-built Museum of Islamic Arts, close to the Souq area in the south.

In the early evening, the Corniche is full of atmosphere, with people picnicking in the gardens, exercising on the waterfront, or enjoying the cool evening breeze and views of the dazzling city skyline.

นี่ขนาดทำเวลาระดับนี้หลังจากว่ายน้ำและจักรยาน ยังได้แค่อันดับที่ 8 ของทั้งหมด 29 คน

Kong Jiajie จากจีน ช่วงแรกก็ดีเช่นกัน โดยว่ายน้ำ 18 นาที 15 วินาที จักรยาน 1 ชั่วโมง 27 วินาที แต่วิ่งหลุดไปเลยโดยทำได้ 36 นาที 11 วินาที

ก่อนวันแข่งได้มีการประชุมกรรมการบริหารของสหพันธ์ไตรกีฬาแห่งเอเชียเพื่อพิจารณาเรื่องสำคัญๆสำหรับวงการไตรกีฬาของเอเชียหลายประการ


ปี 2007 เดือนมิถุนายนจะมีการแข่งขันไตรกีฬาชิงแชมป์เอเชียที่เมือง Tongyeong ของเกาหลีไต้


ปี 2008 จะมีการจัดการแข่งขันไตรกีฬาชิงแชมป์แห่งเอเชียที่........ประเทศไทย


ด้วยความกรุณาอย่างยิ่งจากท่านประธานสหพันธ์ Yu, Kyung Sun จากเกาหลีไต้ เพราะงานนี้ต้องใช้เงินไม่น้อยกว่า 3 ล้านบาท จึงจะจัดได้ยิ่งใหญ่สมเกียรติ ลำพังเงินสนับสนุนจาก กกท. มีให้สำหรับการจัดการแข่งขันทั้งปี ไม่กี่หมื่น

แต่ในเดือนมีนาคม 2007 จะจัดการแข่งขัน ทวิกีฬา Duathlon ชิงแชมป์แห่งเอเชีย ประจำปี 2007 และ ทวิกีฬา Aquathlon ชิงแชมป์แห่งเอเชีย ประจำปี 2007 ที่มุกดาหาร


นอกจากนี้ยังจะมีการฝึกนักไตรกีฬาเยาวชนแห่งเอเชียที่ซูบิค ประเทศฟิลิปินส์ในเดือนเมษายน 2007 รวมทั้งการอบรมโค๊ชนานาชาติที่นั่นด้วย

A dominant display on the bike saw Wang Hongni crowned the first ever Asian Games women’s triathlon champion, the Chinese star crossing the finish line on Doha’s popular Corniche in a time of 1 hour, 59 minutes 44.37 seconds.


The Asian No 5-ranked triathlete had emerged from the 1500m swim in Doha Bay in second place, albeit only a second behind Malaysia’s Yap Fui Li as part of a group of four who had broken away from the rest of the 16-strong field.


However she hit the front with the quickest transition and never looked back, pedalling out to a 5.43 minutes lead on the 40km bike leg over Asian champion and pre-event favourite Ai Ueda of Japan. Ueda did manage to reduce this huge deficit to just under 4:21 minutes on the final leg – the 10km run along the Corniche – but Wang was not to be denied her place in the Asian Games history books.


The 24 year-old was so far in front that she had time to wave to the crowd in the final 300m and even high-five a Chinese official behind the barriers, a huge grin spread across her face the whole time knowing the gold was hers.


“I'm very happy, very excited, I just cannot express my feelings! I feel relaxed now,” said Wang, a former cyclist before converting to triathlon.


“Cycling is my strongest point, I have the ability because I practised. But today I won because of the swim. I am very persistent because it is a long distance.


"Even though cycling is my strongest point, I felt a lot of stress and it was very difficult. I took the initiative to overcome the others and I was leading at the beginning and I kept it in my mind that 'I am in the lead'".


The Japanese favourite broke clear of the four-strong chasing pack – which also feature Yap, China’s Xing Lin and Lea Langit of the Philippines – at the start of the run and finished in 2 hours, 4 minutes and 4.81 seconds.


Xing looked to be struggling on the run and, despite having led her by 1:33 minutes at the final transition, the Chinese triathlete was overtaken by Japan’s Akiko Sekine – who had the fastest run split – for the bronze medal on the second lap.


Malaysian Yap had set the pace in the early stages of the swim in the clear blue waters of Doha Bay, establishing a two body lengths lead midway round the first 750m lap and she rounded the buoys in the lead.


Yap, Alla Safonova of Uzbekistan, Wang and Xing began to put some water between themselves and the spread out field on the second lap with the Malaysian emerging onto the pontoon first in 19:39 minutes.


However the Chinese duo were the quickest in transition and hit the Corniche first, Wang quickly striking out on her own in the lead and after the first 8km lap the Asian No 2 triathlete was 1:15 minutes ahead of her compatriot.


Ueda emerged from the swim in sixth place, some 35 seconds behind Yap, but by the end of the first of five laps on the bike she had moved up to third, leading a chasing group of four.


Working together Ueda, Yap and Langit hauled in Xing but by the end of the second lap Wang had a commanding lead of 3.03 minutes over her nearest challengers in the cool temperatures.


Try as the chasing quartet did to close the gap on the third lap as light rain began to fall again in Doha, Wang continued to push on and her lead had increased to almost four minutes by the 24km mark.


Ueda tried to make a break from the pack on the fourth lap and again at the start of the fifth but, while she managed it initially, she was quickly sucked back into the pack, who trailed by 4:45 minutes going into the final 8km of the run.


Wang, a lonely figure out in front as the rain began to fall heavier, continued to stretch her lead, finishing the 40km bike leg in 1:02.29 for an accumulated time of 1:22.09 – some 5.43 seconds ahead of the chasing pack.


Her compatriot Xing entered the transition stage first, but Ueda was quickest in donning her running shoes and set off on the huge task of trying to catch Wang, the four chasing pack spreading out in the opening minutes of 2-lap run.


The margin ultimately proved to big for even Ueda to claw back and it was China who had cause to celebrate with the first ever triathlon champion. Hirokatsu Tayama, like Ueda the reigning Asian champion, will hope to restore Japanese pride with victory in the men’s triathlon, which starts at 12:30.


Kazakhstan’s Dmitriy Gaag may be only a couple of months away from his 36th birthday, but that did not stop him running away from the rest of the field to win the first ever men’s triathlon gold medal in Asian Games history in a time of 1 hour, 50 minutes 53.14 seconds.


Gaag, the only former world champion in the field, had finished the 40km bike leg in ninth place, 1:10 minutes behind leader Ryosuke Yamamoto of Japan who had Jiang Zhihang of China and Korean Shin Jin Seop hot on his heels.


However the Kazak triathlete, who had been tipped to battle for gold with his compatriot and Asian No 1 Daniil Sapunov, and Asian champion Hirokatsu Tayama quickly set about reeling the leaders in. Amazingly the pair – Tayama some 10 years younger than Gaag – had overhauled the now spread out Shin, Jiang and finally Yamamoto before the end of the first of the two 5km laps of Doha’s famous Corniche.


Gaag and Tayama though didn’t coast past Yamamoto as was perhaps expected, the pair seemingly taking a breather before with around 2.5km to go the Kazak made what turned out to be the winning breakaway.


Neither Tayama or Yamamoto could go with Gaag and as it happened neither of the Japanese triathletes would claim a medal in further disappointment for the team after Ai Ueda was a distant second in the women’s event.


This is because first Daniel Lee Chi Wo of Hong Kong, China and then Sapunov caught up, the battle for the silver medal ending in a sprint finish between the pair with Lee having the legs to pip the Kazak by 1.56 seconds.


Yamamoto came in fourth a further 20 seconds back – his run having been 2 minutes slower than Gaag – with the pain showing on his face and he collapsed distraught across the line.


Tayama would ultimately finish fifth, nearly a minute behind Gaag’s winning time as the Japanese clearly paid the price for his early pace in the run. He was though clear in fifth with Shin of Korea more than a minute down the road.


The Japanese had earlier been the fastest man around the 1500m swim in the clear blue waters of Doha Bay, establishing a three body lengths lead over Kong Jaijie of China before the end of the first lap as the pack struggled to keep pace.


Tayama emerged from the two-lap swim in 18:08 minutes, hitting the pontoon 7 seconds before Kong with the large chasing pack a further 31 seconds back A quick transition saw him increase that advantage, but he allowed Kong to catch him so they could work together to pull away from the chasing pack.


However this didn’t happen on a wet Corniche following a downpour just before the start, the pack quickly hauling the front two in and completing the first 8km lap in a group with Jiang Zhihang of China and Tayama leading them through.


Jiang made the break early on the second lap and by its finish had a 16 seconds advantage over Shin Jin Seop of Korea. However the Chinese triathlete fell seconds later, losing his front wheel as he turned a slight corner.


He quickly remounted and continued but, with a bloodied forearm and leg which he kept flexing for a few metres, it was not long before Shin caught him and the two pushed on together until Yamamoto joined them.


This trio largely stayed together over the remaining laps, although each tried to make a little break at different times, and were the only competitors to complete the 40km distance in under an hour, Shin just ahead of Yamamoto.


Shin though struggled initially to put his trainers on for the 10km run and Yamamoto was quickest out of transition, closely followed by Jiang and the Korean, with the chasing pack a minute behind.


In the end this delay mattered little as no one could live with Gaag, who had time to salute the crowd and turn around in celebration before crossing the finish line to be crowned the inaugural Asian Games champion.
